International Women's Month: Where Every Day is for Us
My university roommate and I grabbed coffee over the weekend. I saw her because of her hands first – she’s always got them adorned in bracelets, so that when she talks with her hands – we’re both hand-talkers – they shimmer in the sun and add a little bit of extra oomf to the conversation.
E-Vyn wears the Nieve Drops and Fleur Ring, both in Gold Vermeil
And that’s exactly what we got to talking about. That extra oomf. “I don’t understand something”, she started, brows furrowed slightly. “We’re already in this modern day and age, but sometimes what I see on social media is a bit strange.”
“In what way?” I pressed.
“Well, let me ask you a question”, she continued. “What is it like to be a woman?”
Immediately, I thought of my favourite it-girl routines on TikTok, of new business influencers who shared their style on Instagram, and of friends and family who were in various industries and excelling at what they did.
“It’s taking so long for you to answer”, she remarked. I explained that I was thinking of a lot of different things.
“Yeah, but why can’t being a woman just come from existing? Why do we need to think so hard about what being a woman constitutes of, why do we need to always align ourselves with some extra oomf – female entrepreneur, female actor, etc?”
That question got me thinking. Why couldn’t it come to me easily – what defines a woman? – when I was one myself?
“Close your eyes and think again.”
This time, I said what was came to mind instantly. “To me, being a woman means finding home in chats with my girlfriends.”
“Being a woman means embracing the emotions of the day through the longest, most nonsense Telegram chats with you.”
Ching wears the Dimension Necklace and Yule Studs, both in 925 Silver
My roommate nodded, deep in thought. “Being a woman simply means to look at myself in the mirror and like how I can dress myself up when I want to, dress casually if I want to, and eventually get to compliment my girlfriends freely about what cute dress they’re pulling off today.”
When it comes to being a woman, we often find ways to celebrate the successes and struggles of their journeys. But as us girls navigate the snakes and ladders of womanhood, perhaps we need to learn that there’s no measure to being a woman, and no strict, boxed-in definitions that we need to follow.
“Being a woman means coming home to a group of friends – sisters – that get me”, my friend, Chan Mi said. “You know how it’s like when you navigate growing up – adulting can be scary. It’s so awesome to be with girls that have my back and aren’t afraid to discuss these fearful emotions with me.”
One of her best friends, Nadine, an interior designer, agreed. “It’s so comforting to be with my girls. We’re cool to share hard truths with each other, because we know that we’re going to be there, celebrating one another, lifting each other up, at various points of our lives.”
“Job promotion? Great! Wore your favourite ring today? I feel you, girl – made me feel cute and all!”
In Singapore, International Women’s Day was celebrated across various offices with gifts for the girls, the cutest bazaars with women-owned businesses, and social media was chock-full of stories with inspirational women. My friends and I shared links, “bad bitch empowering” anthems, and indulged in the popcorn that was given out at work. The day after International Women’s Day, one of my colleagues came in with the most beautiful, long silk skirt.
Chan Mi wears the Noel RIng (925 Silver)
“Why’re you wearing that today”, our friend asked playfully, “Women’s Day over leh.”
Our colleague shrugged. “I don’t need a reason to dress up. I just woke up and felt like it’d be cool to wear a skirt today.”
We agreed that it looked amazing on her, and as she walked to her desk, I found myself processing the thought. We’re women, we’re existing each day, coming to work, going about our activities, trying our best.
We’re women, and every ordinary day is our day – the support we give one another is what makes it extraordinary.
The Ordinary People: The Beauty of Nature with Emma Chong
On a Friday morning, Emma (@lunabyemma) invited us to one of her most special showings yet –and it was no simple walk-in-the-park. Armed with a wooden easel, heavy canvas and paints, she stepped into a natural clearing past the bridge, surrounded by weeping willow trees.
And then, she started to paint, inspired by the water lilies, the way gentle breeze rustled the leaves, and the grass beneath her feet.
Emma Chong is an illustrator who turns towards many things – the soft drops of rain on a window pane, the sound your coffee cup makes as it’s set down, and the trailing of the sun on her skin. “What I create helps me navigate through the more intimate parts of my existence”, she shares with a warm smile.
Emma wears the Guardian Necklace
What sparked an within you for interest and love for art?
My interest for art and specifically drawn images started from a very young age when I was first exposed to children’s books, specifically Grimm’s and Anderson’s folks and fairytales, with beautifully illustrated pictures. My interest was further cultivated during my fine art studies and ever since then it has been an ever growing and evolving interest for visual arts, specifically visual art forms that explored with materials.
Emma wears the Eternity Bracelet and Bamboo Ring
What is something that art has given you?
Art has given me a purpose.
I learn to be more attentive to my experiences in general, to embrace the many aspects of woman experiences, be it the good and the bad, the happiness and pain and turn them into something else- art/ illustration or anything of that matter.
What motivates you to start a new piece each time/each day?
My motivation to create often comes from my desire to communicate with my audience and my determination for growth. Specifically, solving technical issues with each practice (printmaking) and seeing the result improves is what keeps me going.
A good idea doesn’t happen overnight, I need to actively explore my surroundings, watch a movie, read a piece of article and digging into my journal and sketches to find traces of notes that I have made. Because not every idea turns into a masterpiece – most of the time they are documented in the form of scribbles on my sketch book, still life drawings, digital collages or digital drawings.
Have you ever faced creative block – and how do you usually overcome it?
Yes, in fact, it happens often when I am most critical of myself, and especially at times when I didn’t deliver a certain results according to plan, which often leads to a cycle of procrastination and self doubts.
I have noticed that when that happens, it's really hard to overcome it just by reading some encouraging quotes... obviously checking out what others are doing on Instagram would backfire on me.
Emma wears the Eternity earrings
Instead of doing nothing, I would go back to the basics: going for a run, and the fundamental practice, buying a bunch of fresh flowers from the nursery and arrange them in style, practice still-life drawing, explore with new materials and flipping my collections of art books. Doing these actually help to release my anxieties and aid in rewiring my thoughts, in the process I would always feel refreshed and reinvigorated, and I would be able to start the creative process again.
What does a typical day in the life look for you? How do you prepare your mind for the work you’re embarking on?
A typical day starts from waking up next to my three-year-old son and feeling like a great mom! :D
I'll play with him briefly, prepare him for the day and bring him to school. Then I will make my way to the studio. Studio routine starts with a prayer, watering the plants, turn on my favourite music and I am ready to work. Nothing preps my mind better than talking to God.
Emma wears the Hua Earrings
What are your upcoming plans for personal and business growth this New Year?
2023 is a year of further exploration for me.
I have plan to complete a series of online painting classes that I have started earlier on, it should be available online before the second quarter of the year, meanwhile I look forward to collaborate with a few local brands and showcase more of my illustrations.
On the other hand, through my personal experimental works, I have been motivated to begin a deeper inquiry with the methodologies of contemporary art-making and I am looking forward to beginning my BA studies in October which I would be exploring themes of woman experiences in general, motherhood, the relationships between botanical imagery and femininity, these are things that are close to my heart and I have shown interests in down through the years in my art pratises. Besides continuing my printmaking practices, I am also going to explore other multidisciplinary methods that are new to me.

What part of nature inspires you the most – what is the best part of Spring to you?
Nature is full of fascinating surprises and wonders. I am sure I have yet to see all of its beauty.
If I have to only mention one, I would say green forests. I love seeing wild flowers, shrubs, tiny plants, shrooms and fruits growing and coming to its own, and I love how the trees have provided shadings for these tiny flora and fauna. Green forest is the heart of the earth where life and mystery dwells. The best part of Spring to me is definitely the increase length of daytime and the awakening of nature.
When one talks about Spring, Sandro Botticelli’s painting Primavera comes to my mind.
The nine mythological figures beautifully painted in their gentle draperies, myriads of plant species and the abundance of flowers and fruits blossomed, suggesting the beauty of Spring lies in fertility and metamorphosis.”
As the morning turns to afternoon, Emma sets her brush down. She pauses to look at her work. The jewelry she wears – the Eternity bracelet and Bamboo ring from our collection – glides up and down her hands as she sorts through paints, picking out specific colours to commemorate, to capture specific moments. Closes her eyes as the wind welcomes her, guiding her towards the next stroke.
“My craft centres me, and forges a path for me to leave a small little notch in the vast world we wander.”

The Ordinary People: Home for the Lunar New Year with @hellohomebodies
We took a peep into Kenny & Ruby's home this Chinese New Year, a retail manager and marketer but also self-declared cat servants who hold a passion in interior design and styling. They share their passion with likeminded souls on the Instagram community via their Insta handle @hellohomebodies, and sometimes document musings of life at home with their cat, Biru.

Hey guys! We love your home - tell us what the renovation process was like before you moved in.
It was long and frustrating at times but we honestly missed it once its done! From contractor selection to reconfiguration of the unit’s layout and deciding on finishes, colours, electrical points and dimensions of every detail, the decision-making seemed never-ending. But when the end-product started taking shape, the highs that come with it makes it all worthwhile. Looking back though, we would say yes to do it all over again in a heartbeat!
It's so rare to see high ceilings and a spiral staircase in Singapore homes, how did you find this place, and what made you decide on it?
We actually looked all over Singapore when we were hunting for a new place and this was one of the first units we visited. It was love at first sight for the apartment’s bones with its spiral staircase but it didn’t check all boxes of what we were looking for. Plus we knew it would be a lot of work to redo the place, including reconfiguring the layout. However throughout the house-hunting process, we realized we couldn’t shake this unit out of our minds. Bonus that there’s plenty of good food nearby and our Eastie friends were super pumped to welcome us to their hood.
Ruby wears the Printemps Ring and Printemps Chain from The Ordinary Co, and the Structured Maxi Dress from Terrablush.
How was the renovation like, was there any hiccups along the way?
As with every good reno story – everything that could have gone bad, did. Even though our main contractor delivered brilliantly, we experienced major shipment delays, inconsistent goods being delivered, roof leakages and even made a police report against a dishonest vendor (horror story for another day!). Since our renovation was without an ID, it was a lot of self-affirmation for the design process. At one point we were even breaking tiles and laying them at midnight by ourselves in order to execute our design vision.
That sounds tough! Other than an amazing home, were there any silver linings to doing your home yourself?
Having been through all these challenges make each end product even more special though. And of course, the other silver lining is that we got adopted by our cat, Biru. Biru was living in our carpenter’s workshop for about 5 years and he finally chose us as his humans after months of us frequenting the workshop to discuss carpentry details.
Ruby Wears the Printemps Studs
What Inspired your home?
Our travels to Japan and Morocco inspired the design behind this home to a large extent. The design influence of both countries meant a lot of organic, natural materials and shapes were introduced and we kept the colours relatively pared down to keep things timeless.
What do you love most about this space your two have created together?
Kenny: Our master bedroom with the ensuite bath is my fave – it is tucked away on the upper level which reminds me of loft boutique hotels – I think one of our first staycation as a couple more than a decade ago had a similar concept! The ensuite bath with bathtub is also a relaxation haven.
Ruby: I love the mornings in our home – the place glows in the warm orange light and I feel nothing but gratitude that we are able to wake up to this every morning
Ruby wears the Pane Necklace from The Ordinary Co, and the Longline Kimono and Highwaisted Shorts from Terrablush
Share with us your top spring cleaning and organization tips!
We are pretty chill when it comes to deep cleaning our home and find that breaking the chores down into smaller tasks that can be completed within 30 mins – an hour each time to be a lot less daunting. Baskets, especially the ones with lids, are a great way to organize your clutter and we recommend to use this opportunity to agree on an organization system with your spouse/family members so you don’t feel like you’re the only one who has to own all the chores at home all the time!
Have you been doing a lot of hosting in your new home?
We enjoy hosting in small intimate groups and have done so several times since we’ve moved in. We love that our kitchen-dining-living is laid out in a seamless manner and we can always be present with our guests. The large island had also quickly become a favourite communal table for guests to gather round while someone else busies in the kitchen.
Any tips to make the home inviting for the guests this upcoming Lunar New Year?
Skip the socials and focus on spending time with your guests! Keep the fragile and breakables out of reach if you can but don’t be too precious about everything in your home – you don’t want your guests to be stressed out. Our recommendation is to always have a large box of baking soda on standby because there’s little that this miracle powder cannot do!
Our Spring Collection is available in our New Arrivals.

The Ordinary People: Moments with Mili and Maya From Moom
This World Mental Health Day, we speak to sisters Maya, 27, and Mili, 29, from Moom (@moom) to delve into their thoughts on starting the brand, their beliefs in the connection between our minds and bodies, how to prioritise their wellbeing and connection as sisters while running their business.
Having grown up in Singapore, but being originally Indian, both sisters moved to the United States at 18 to go to college in California. With Maya's background in International Relations and Women's health, she brought that knowledge to work at a startup in NYC and for WeWork in Singapore, focusing on building a community and how to truly integrate that into a brand’s identity. Currently, she is the Global Education Manager with Smile Makers, a wellbeing brand that supports sexual empowerment.
Big sis Mili has a background in Education Policy from Columbia University and has spent the last decade building an education consultancy startup in India, which focused on creating accessible education to young people. Currently, she advises for the startup and has a keen interest in how education plays a role in wellness. Both of them started Moom on the side something that not only meant something to them, but with the hopes of impacting the community at large.
Mili wears the Michicant Bracelet
Why did you decide to start this company with your sister?
We have always been close and knew we wanted to do something together - it just took the first CB lockdown for us to spend enough time together to figure out what exactly that would be! Spending a lot of time together during COVID sparked us to have so many conversations around our health, and Moom was fully born out of those conversations.
Is it easier or harder to resolve business issues with family?
So much easier, at least for us!! Mili and I are both big communicators, so when something is bothering us, we tell each other. On top of that, since we’ve known each other our whole lives, it’s pretty easy to tell when somethings off, and because we’re sisters, we’re not shy when it comes to calling each other out on our bullsh** haha! We thought working together would be more difficult than it is, but the only thing we’re struggling with is that we spend 24/7 together...so we’re working on giving each other a bit of space hahahha. At the end of the day, we trust each other more than anyone, so we know everything we do comes from a good place.

Share more about how wellness (body and mind) is important to the brand
(Maya and Mili) At its very core, Moom is a wellness brand - we believe we are much more than a supplement brand! At Moom, wellness looks different for everyone, and personalisation is a huge part of that, from our product suite to the education we offer. To us, wellness is really about taking a step back, tuning in to yourself, and figuring out what your body needs.
How has working full time to running your business on the side affected your mental health's respectively?
It’s affected it for the good and bad. Of course, having something of your own, that is completely your responsibility and ‘your baby’ is stress inducing and very time consuming- leaving you with a little less self-care and free time. That being said, running our own business has also brought us so much more joy and happiness and positively impacted our mental health!
Why is creating a daily ritual important - and what routines (on top of taking Moom!) are part of your lives?
Daily rituals are a practice of grounding yourself, and again, tuning in and listening to your body. Especially in today’s world, where so much is changing and at the same time so little is happening, having a daily ritual gives you a semblance of normalcy and gives you the space to do what you need!
(Maya) For me, I have a nightly ritual of doing a mini skincare ritual, showering (so I get into bed super clean), taking my Moom, and lighting my incense or a candle.
(Mili) My morning ritual is really important to me. I like waking up and having a coffee on my balcony (when it’s not raining), taking a moment to just hang out by myself and resetting before the busy day begins. I take my Moom in the morning with my coffee and a light breakfast and love having some time to just relax! It’s so important to me to get the day going.
Mili Wears the Moira Ring and Michicant Ring
Rings / Necklace / Earrings / Bracelet - which must you have on before you leave the house!
(Maya) Earrings! I never leave the house without earrings on, and have recently started wearing more rings and bracelets too. After I get ready for the day, I put on my earrings, spritz on a perfume, and leave the house feeling ready to go - even if I’m wearing sweatpants out hahah. I’m a piercing fanatic so the more hoops on my ears the better. When I come home in the evening, I have my mini ritual, taking off my jewelry, doing my night time skincare ritual, and taking my Moom. These tiny steps make me feel at home and rested.
(Mili) Earrings and Bracelets. Never leave home without them and usually try to pick pieces I can live in- I get lazy to take things off! I love pieces that can truly have a ‘forever home’ on your body and can be worn every single day as a base. From there, adding on more statement earrings, or a necklace, or larger rings to take your look to the next level is always fun!
What are Moom's plans for the future and the best parts about running your own brand?
So much and we can’t wait! But, ultimately, we want to be the go-to brand for natural remedies for the modern Asian woman. We believe there is a huge gap in wellness, especially in this region- and products are either made by brands our parents told us to take or ones with an exorbitant price point, or they aren’t available to us- and we're here to fill that gap. We have some exciting new formulations and products in the pipeline and can’t wait to continue creating products that speak to our generation and our ethos- accessible, fun, and high quality!
Thank you for sharing about your experiences - let us know what mental health initiatives Moom is running this Mental Health month!
As a wellness brand, we believe there’s no health without mental health, and that taking a break is (more than) okay. This October, to commemorate Mental Health Awareness Month, we are launching an initiative that prioritises mental health and how you are feeling, while acknowledging your complete mind-body connection: Rest is for the Strong.
How you feel is integral to everything we do and getting enough rest plays a very large part in that. A recent article by CNA stated it clearly “From the minute we wake to the minute we lay our heads down in bed, we have to be hyper-connected, hyper-updated and on hyper alert – especially with the pandemic situation. No wonder we are so tired”- and this specifically spoke to us as Singaporeans. As a society, we associate success and strength with the non-stop and forget the importance and value of resting and taking a minute to tune in to ourselves.
Mental wellbeing has become increasingly important, thus our campaign directly speaks to one of the core tenets of wellbeing: Rest. It is often something that we are told to neglect or leave for later, but here at Moom, we believe the time to rest is now- and you deserve it.
For our campaign, we are launching a limited edition series of t-shirts, where 100% of the proceeds will be donated to Samaritans of Singapore, to help with their efforts around access to crisis support and counselling. Through this campaign, we want to emphasize issues such as stress, sleep, exhaustion and loneliness, and move away from the one-size-fits-all notion that we are often prescribed.
For the month of October, our Rest is for the Strong t-shirts will be on sale on our website, as well as themed weekly giveaways with local brands that believe in our mission and movement! Join the campaign by sharing what rest means to you on social media to spread awareness, support Samaritans of Singapore, and ultimately be our strongest self.

The Ordinary People: Joyce of Artysynibs' Calligraphy Journey
We caught up with Joyce of Artysynibs (@artsynibs) in her stunning home studio to find out more about her journey to becoming a full-time calligrapher, and realities of managing her business. Having taught classes across Europe from London to Vienna, she's settled found a space to call her own while expanding her business and sharing her two cents on how to value yourself as an individual entrepreneur.
Joyce wears the Revolve Earrings
How did you start your calligraphy journey (how long have you been doing it for as a hobby, and how long full time)?
I first picked up the calligraphy pen in 2012 when my husband introduced it to me. Surprisingly, I took to it like fish to water. It wasn’t until 3 years later that I decided to turn it into a full-time business.
Wearing the Resolution Gold Studs and Reverie Ring (Matte Gold)
How did you find your first client / any advice to aspiring women entrepreneurs to find theirs?
I just spoke to people. As many people as I could. Because I was the “new kid in town”, I basically walked up to people, sent emails or DMs. I’d say - don’t underestimate the power of connecting with people authentically. How has working for yourself over the years shaped you and even while working for yourself, have you ever found yourself in a rut and had to shake things up?
It’s definitely allowed me to learn a lot about myself - how I work, why I work, what excites me to work and etc. I think that’s brought on the biggest change in perspective from this experience. Creative ruts are like my good friends by now. So when I encounter one, albeit frustrating, I learnt to take it as a sign of exhaustion and insert a period of rest. It’ll be a time where I can fully immerse myself into creative pursuits that won’t make me money.
Featuring the Reverie Ring (Silver) and Reverie Hoops (Silver)
What made you decide to change from teaching calligraphy to training others how to teach calligraphy?
I’ve been teaching calligraphy for 6 years now and honestly, I’m quite surprised that I’ve done it for this long. I’m the sort who needs to switch things up every couple of years and 2020 was a year of deep reflection. The massive upheaval that shook up led me back to WHY I do what I do. And I’m thankful that I came to the conclusion of teaching - one of the few things in life that I’m very certain about. Coupled with the fact that I refused to be defeated by the pandemic and whatever pre-existing challenges, I decided to pivot and take a path that no one has gone down before.
The Reverie Necklace and Ring in Gold
What struggles do you face being in the creative industry and your journey towards valuing your skills and your workshop?
One of the biggest ones is confidence. No matter what we create, we are putting a part of ourselves in that creation. Running it as a business means you constantly have to put your creations out there, this is a very vulnerable position to be in. You are putting yourself out there for the world to judge. And it hurts when people don’t like it. But I’ve learnt to not take things personally and that’s given me the confidence to focus on the direction I want to go in.
What are you most proud of that you would tell your younger self?
Younger Joyce, you will one day build a business doing what you love and being unapologetically you!

Ordinary Days: Rosalind's Festive Fig Cake Recipe
Nurse by day against the fight against coronavirus, and recreational cook and baker on her free time, we join Rosalind Kang (of @rosalindkang) in her newly renovated and airy home for an afternoon whipping up her favourite go-to bake - a chiffon cake, with a festive fig and berry twist. Scroll down to experience our time with Rosalind, her thoughts on the festive season, and for the recipe at the end!
Rosalind wear's the Enchante Ring as she bakes.
When did you start cooking/baking and when did you realise you really love it?
I started when I was in university. Because I stayed far away from my family, I had to force myself to cook in order to survive! As for baking, it’s a hobby I picked up two years ago as I found it to be a rather interesting process having to find the right balance of elements which may be difficult to control, in fact more difficult than cooking!
Wearing the Soleil Studs and Lumiere Necklace
How does cooking/baking destress you from your work?
Whenever I’m stressed out by work, I feel the urge to eat! So the process of getting to a cooked meal heals me throughout the process. From shopping for ingredients to marinating, and then hearing the sizzle, it’s so satisfying! Of course on top of that I spend time watching cook shows and reading cool books. That takes my kind away from some of the work-induced stress!
Reaching for sugar in the Noel Ring.
What do you love about the festive period?
I feel proud when my friends and family can come over to my home and enjoy the food I cook! It gives me a sense of satisfaction when my favourite people are all in one place!
All good things come with patience and care.
What’s your go-to dishes to cook/bake other than the chiffon cake?
Other then chiffon cake, I aspire to bake bread, because my husband loves bread! I also know that baking bread is not an easy process, so I hope to be able to learn more about it!
Enjoying the fruits of her labour. Wearing the Soleil Matte Ring

An Afternoon of Festive Wreathing and Feasting
We spent a tactile afternoon getting our hands and fingers busy with creating a whimsical interpretation of the classic Christmas wreath with dried grasses. It was an afternoon of exploration and discovery as our guests explored their creative sides and had a little laugh along the way. Scroll more to get inspired for activities to do during your own upcoming Christmas party!
Guided by Nicole from In The Name of Flowers, the session lasted just an hour. Only 4 items needed to make the wreaths - a gold ring, pliable wire, a wire cutter and dried grasses of your choice - the more variations, the more texture and interest your piece has!
The materials were gathered on the table as part of the decor, and our guests were given the freedom to select any of the flowers of the grasses available without holding back. (Creative) chaos ensued!
Begin by arranging the largest and most voluminous grasses first to the frame your wreath, in this case, it was the pampas. Smaller grasses were added on to add detail and contrast to the designs.
Laughs all around with of guests, Beatrice (@beatriceleesn) and Kimberly (@chankimberly)
Taking a step is always a good way to see your creation from another perspective.
The final results! It's lovely to see how dramatically different the shapes of each wreath were when seen through the eyes of a different creator.
After working their hands and fingers, our guests put their digits to good use again - with a stunning grazing platter from Lush Platters filled with a generous amount of fresh cold cuts, cheeses, fruits and dips to decompress and reward themselves for the hard work.
As Christmas draws closer, we are thankful for all the support this year. Having launched our demi-fine line, A Little Less last year and having a full year to fully introduce it to you, our customer. We're so excited by all the possibilities and the wonderful collaborations that have come our way, and we will keep working on to keep you excited and inspired about making accessorising part of your lifestyle. Have a happy end of 2020, and see you ladies next year!
Collaborations: Nailing It with Eugenia from Nodspark
We caught up with Eugenia, Founder of Nodspark, one of Singapore's first brands to bring nail wraps into the mainstream consciousness with their fuss free proposition of getting your nails done in unique patterns - without the hours spent in the salon. Taking only 10 minutes to apply these sticker-esque inventions, the ease of use and fun designs have helped the business grow rapidly in the past few years it's been around.
We've worked together with Nodspark for a collaboration with The Ordinary Co in the celebration of our 6th anniversary in the form of a limited edition Nodspark x The Ordinary Co Nail Wraps, grounded in neutrals and flecks of gold, inspired by our new box design and the metallics of jewelry.
Eugenia herself being a customer of The Ordinary Co, is a big believer that it's all in the details, and shares more with us why she thinks nails and jewelry have such a great synergy!
Which are your favourite kinds of jewelry to wear?
I LOVE everything in the 'A Little Less' collection, especially the earrings! Quality studs have a good weight and a solid backing, which I appreciate. I found myself reaching for smaller earrings during the Covid-19 circuit breaker period as I had to run after my kids at home, yet still wanted something on my ears. I was constantly wearing the silver Dimensions Earrings during those WFH months!
Why did you start Nodspark? Is this your first venture?
I started Nodspark because I saw the potential in nail polish wraps and how it matched to our demographics perfectly. Prior to Nodspark, I also run a business that retails quality products for the modern seniors called Haf Box Pte Ltd and distributes fashionable walking canes known as Cane Art, our in-house local brand.
Have you always been interested in doing your nails?
While I wasn't never big on nail art, simply because of the time required, and they are rather pricey, I enjoyed having my nails painted! I envied ladies who had their nails done all the time as they looked so put together effortlessly. Hence, was very passionate about developing and educating users in Singapore about nail wraps, so that more ladies can enjoy getting their nails done with minimum effort.
I think the synergies with nails and jewelry is how something so small, that makes the difference between an A and an A+ look.
Tell us about the design process behind each nail wrap, and how long it takes from an idea to bloom to fruitition!
The process can be as fast as 4 days, to a few months, depending on what we're experimenting with, or how simple the design or concept is. We always come up with a mood board to help us execute the concept more accurately. We choose the style, followed by the details, then we add in the colours, and move things around if necessary. We have also come up with plenty of designs that never made the cut to production- but that's part and parcel of what we do as we only want to offer the best of designs that we are proud of to our community.
What general plans do you have to take Nodspark to the next level?
We are always on the look out for opportunities overseas, so look out for that!
Nails or clothes first?
Nails first, always! Makes choosing my outfit a lot easier!
What do you do when you and your team get stuck in a creative rut?
We listen to music, go for a walk, or watch some Netflix to wash our eyes and minds a little!
Tips for aspiring local entrepreneurs?
Always stay humble and open to reaching out for opportunities. If you don't ask, you never know what doors you might be closing for yourself!
