How It's Made

The Ordinary Co

The Material

Our shawls are woven from yarns dyed by a leading specialist yarn-dyeing mills, a publicly listed manufacturer with over twenty years of experience in colour development and textile finishing. The mill holds internationally recognised certifications for quality, environmental management and product safety.

From Fibre to Form

Our viscose fibres are derived from wood pulp sourced through FSC-certified supply chains, helping support responsible forest management, and processed in an OEKO-TEX® certified mill.

Hand-Finished

From preparing the yarns and operating the looms; to inspecting the finished fabric and sewing in the final label; the expertise of our skilled craftsmen ensures the softness, drape and quality that define our shawls.

Woven, Not Printed

Woven, Not Printed

Our shawls are woven on jacquard looms, where every motif is created by interlacing coloured yarns directly into the fabric. Rather than sitting on the surface as a print, the design becomes part of the textile itself.

This construction creates a reversible shawl with depth, texture and dimension, revealing a different expression on each side. The intricate weave catches the light differently as it moves, bringing subtle richness and character that cannot be achieved through printing alone.

Beautiful from both sides and designed to be worn often, each shawl is crafted to balance artistry, versatility and everyday ease.
